FAQ

Chemicals compliance questions

Do I need an EPA registration number to sell a disinfectant on Amazon?

Yes. A product that claims to kill, repel or control germs or pests is a pesticide under FIFRA and needs EPA registration, and Amazon asks for the Reg. No.

What is Amazon’s pesticide marking attribute?

A listing field where you declare whether the product is a registered pesticide, a treated article or exempt, with the EPA Reg. No. Verid8 checks what you entered against the listing’s claims.

Is a treated article a pesticide?

Not if its claims only protect the article itself. Claims that protect people, such as killing E. coli on a cutting board, end the exemption (40 CFR 152.25(a)).

Can I call a cleaner “non-toxic”?

Only with a qualification you can support. The FTC Green Guides treat “non-toxic” as a claim about people and the environment.

What is the difference between an EPA Reg. No. and an Est. No.?

The Reg. No. identifies the registered product; the Est. No. identifies the facility that made it. Both belong on the label.

Does Verid8 check EPA registration numbers?

Yes, live against EPA’s Pesticide Product Label System (PPLS).
